Please allow myself to introduce…myself. My name is Curtis Gordon, and I teach 9th grade and 9th grade Accelerated English classes here at Winslow High School. 2017-2018 is my second full year at WHS, having begun teaching here in the 4th quarter of the 2015-2016 school year. I earned my B.S.Ed. from Northern Arizona University in 2015, and am certified in the state of Arizona to teach English and History for grades 6-12. I live in Flagstaff with my wife and two daughters.
After two decades in auto repair, I decided it was time for a change. I needed work that allowed me to positively impact my life, my community, and the lives of others, and I found that in teaching. I get to interact with the young people of today and help mold them into the adults of tomorrow; I consider it an honor and a privilege, and I have never before felt so excited to get up in the morning and go to work!
In our English classes we will explore literature from 300 BCE to the 21st Century. We will explore elements of literature including plot, theme, tone, and mood, and how authors use those tools to tell their stories. We will write narrative fiction, expository essays, and argumentative essays, my favorite. We will read and interact with a large amount of historical material as well as fictional novels and short stories, culminating with Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Accelerated classes will also read two more books over the course of the school year and grapple with university-level texts and assignments involving the disciplines of Psychology and Economics.
If you’d like to get in touch with me, e-mail is by far the most convenient. My e-mail address is email@example.com and I will always respond in less than 24 hours.
Thanks for stopping by!
