Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! I am excited to be back for another year at WHS! This year I am teaching 11th English, 11th AP English Language, and 12th English.
GORDON, WHO THE HECK ARE YOU?
My name is Curtis Gordon. This is my 8th year teaching, and my 6th year teaching at WHS. I currently teach English and AP English Language; in prior years I have also taught Social Studies and AP US History. I've lived in Arizona since July of 2001 and in Flagstaff since July of 2011. I live there with my wife, one of our two daughters, a dog, a cat, and a lizard, plus assorted wildlife (deer, elk, javelina, foxes, skunks, raccoons, squirrels, rabbits, neighborhood cats, it's ridiculous) wandering through the backyard.

- 1st LUNCH/MAROON LUNCH: 11:40 - 12:10
- P4: Prep: 12:15 - 1:15
- P5: 11th English: 1:20 - 2:20
- P6: 12th English: 2:25 - 3:25
- Classroom closes @ 3:45
Early Release Friday:
- Classroom opens @ 7:45
- P1: 11th English: 8:30 - 9:05
- P2: 11th English: 9:10 - 9:45
- P3: 11th AP English: 9:50 - 10:25
- P4: Prep: 10:30 - 11:05
- P5: 11th English: 11:10 - 11:45

- Assigned RTI: 12:30-1:30
- Lunch: 1:30-2:15
- Staff meetings/office hours: 2:15-3:45 NOTE: Students can come in for assistance or to get caught up during this time, check with me to see if I have meetings scheduled

GORDON, IS EVERYTHING WE DO GOING TO BE AVAILABLE ONLINE?
Almost everything will be, yes. We will use Schoology for all assignments; some will be on Common Lit (linked through Clever), and Schoology will say so when they are. Most will be Google Docs linked to from Schoology. On rare occasions we may do an assignment on paper.
NOTE: All grades will be finalized and posted in PowerSchool. No other scores on any other site should be considered accurate.

- The new Arizona Moment of Silence Law (House Bill 2707 amending A.R.S. § 15-506) requires all K-12 public schools to set aside one to two minutes at the beginning of every school day for a moment of silent reflection. Students are prohibited from interfering with other students’ participation in the moment of silence. All school personnel are prohibited from suggesting the content of the reflection. Teachers are required to encourage parents to discuss with their children how to use the moment of silence.
