Reading List of Courage

Reading is great way to expand your mind...allowing for creativity and imagination to develop...which can then help you solve a challenging math problem...or just about any kind of problem-solving task given you not related to math. When I was younger, besides my math textbook and Bible, these were other books I found to keep me company. These books took me away from a small quiet town to amazing exciting places where great feats of courage took place and I was in awe of the character. Although fictional...I was always fascinated by the character's heroism that I'd play them out in my mind and imagine myself in their shoes.

Here is a list of my favorites while growing up...and which were always suggested by my English teachers and librarians...
  • The Black Stallion series, by Walter Farley
  • The Call of the Wild, by Jack London
  • Chronicles of Narnia, by C.S. Lewis
  • The Iliad and the Odyssey, by Homer
  • Ishi, Last of his Tribe, by Theodora Kroeber
  • Jonathan Livingston Seagull, by Richard Bach
  • The Jungle Book, by Rudyard Kipling
  • The Old Man and the Sea, by Ernest Hemingway
  • White Fang, by Jack London
Some of these have become movies...but like anybody else...the book always has the better version of the author's imagination. Have fun with these...Let them keep you company and the heroes be your best friends too! ENJOY!
