Jack Peterson Scholarship
The Jack Peterson Scholarship is awarded annually to at least one Arizona high school senior who plans to pursue education as their major course of study at the college/university level. Amounts of the awards vary from year to year and are based on annual earnings from the scholarship endowment. Scholarship amounts typically range from $1,000 to $1,500.
The scholarship was established in honor of ASBA Executive Director Jack Peterson, who served the association from 1991 to 1998.
By submitting a nomination, you acknowledge that the person you are nominating for the award is from a member district of ASBA.
Eligibility:
Must be a senior currently attending an accredited public high school in an Arizona school district which is an active member of ASBA.
Must enroll in an accredited Arizona college or university designating education as a major course of study.
Must have maintained a high school record that reflects high academic achievement and regular attendance; respectable leadership and citizenship among peers; and sustained participation in school/community activities.
Panfilo H. Contreras Honorary Scholarship
The Panfilo H. Contreras Honorary Scholarship was awarded for the first time in 2013 by ASBA’s Hispanic-Native American Indian Caucus. Hispanic and Native American Indian students who are seniors in high school are eligible to apply for this scholarship to support their attendance at an accredited post-secondary institution. Last year’s scholarships were $1,000 each.
Only students who have submitted complete entry materials will be considered. The committee will designate an alternative recipient to receive the scholarship award if for any reason the initially named recipient is unable to fulfill the award requirements in a timely manner.

Eligibility:
Must be a Hispanic or Native American Indian senior attending an accredited public high school in Arizona in a district whose governing board is an active member of the Arizona School Boards Association.
Must enroll in an accredited institution in Arizona.
Must have maintained a high school record that reflects high academic achievement and regular attendance; respectable leadership and citizenship among peers; and sustained participation in school/community activities.
Black Alliance Georgie and Calvin Goode Scholarship
The Black Alliance of the Arizona School Boards Association has established the Georgie and Calvin Goode Student Scholarship. Two scholarships will be awarded annually to high school seniors who demonstrate an exceptional record of academic growth and a commitment to service to others.
Georgie and Calvin Goode believed deeply in service to others and education, not only as a pathway to one’s own dreams, but also for the betterment of the whole community. While they may no longer be with us, they continue to be role models for our youth. Naming this scholarship in their honor is recognition of that and, we hope, will further etch their impact on Arizona’s history.
Georgie and Calvin Goode both spent their adult lives committed to service and dedicated to advancement of their communities, public education and civil rights, Mr. Goode as Phoenix city councilman for 22 years and as a member of the Phoenix ESD Governing Board and Mrs. Goode as a public school teacher and a member of the governing boards of Phoenix ESD and Phoenix UHSD. Mrs. Goode passed in 2015 and Mr. Goode passed in December 2020.
The first Black Alliance Goode Scholarships were awarded in Spring 2022. Applicants must be a currently enrolled senior in an ASBA member district, Black or of African descent and planning to further their education at an accredited postsecondary institution.
