Ms. Evans' English Courses

Hello!

My name is Ms. Rachel Evans, and I teach 9th grade and 11th grade English classes at Winslow High School. I received my B.S.Ed. from Northern Arizona University, and I am certified to teach English for grades 6-12 in Arizona. I moved from the sunny state of California to Arizona to pursue a career in education.

After receiving my Bachelors’, I spent some time working in afterschool programs with elementary students. These programs fueled my drive to teach even more.

In 9th grade English courses, students will explore literature from 300 BCE to the 21st Century. They will expand their knowledge on literary elements (plot, theme, mood, tone, etc.) and how authors use these tools to tell their stories. Essays that students will accomplish are narrative essays, expository essays, and argumentative essays in MLA format.  We will read and interact with a large amount of historical material as well as fictional novels and short stories, culminating with Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

In 11th grade English courses, students will explore American Literature starting from Native American Tales to 21 Century texts. They will expand their knowledge on literary elements (plot, theme, mood, tone, etc.) and how authors use these tools to tell their stories. Essays that students will accomplish are narrative essays, expository essays, argumentative essays, and research paper. For the research paper, students will choose a topic and create a MLA formatted essay.  We will read and interact with a large amount of historical material as well as fictional novels and short stories, like the Arthur Miller’s The Crucible.

If you have any questions or need to contact me, please use my email, revans@wusd1.org. I will respond to email within 24 hours.
